Now that wasn’t so bad. It was obvious that I had a cold, but other than that the interview sounded good. What a relief! :) Now I can get off the internet and grab some dinner. Yey.

Shameless Self-Promotion

Tuesday, 25 September 07

For those of you who can speak Spanish and has time to kill today, Tuesday, at 13:00 Spanish time (19:00 in Manila), please listen as I try to squeak my way through a short interview about my art and sculptures. :) It will be aired here: Click on the “Radio Manila” button/logo and listen to the program.

It’s a bit of a laugh, really. It was a semi-ambush interview (I was prepared to talk about my work but didn’t know that I was supposed to do it in Spanish!) so I am not sure how it’s going to sound. Ngaaarrgh! They are only airing snippets of the informal interview (thank god), but they’re doing a whole feature on me and my work. It’s the first of their new series on Filipina Women. Whoohoo! :) Listen in if you have time and if you want to have a laugh. :)

Inspire Me Thursday: ATC

I’ll Remember You

I’ll Remember You (Mixed Media, 2.5 x 3.5 inches)

This is my first “Inspire Me Thursday” entry. Woohoo! This week’s task (ummm… it’s last week’s, actually!) is to create an ATC or artist trading card. There’s only one rule: it should be small, only 2.5 x 3.5 inches, then the rest is up to you and your imagination. :)

I wanted to do this task because it’s been ages since I last used a brush or colored pencils or my markers (I’m practically glued to my pliers and wire cutters), plus, I’ve never done an “Inspire Me Thursday” artwork. So I dove right in and allowed myself to make a mess. I initially wanted to make something cute and light… sigh. But that is not my style so I gave in eventually. I really tried–look, I started with watercolor and I used pink!!! :) But, alas, one stroke led to another… there really was no point in resisting the inevitable. hehehehe. So here’s another “horrorific” artwork from me. :) It’s kinda messy and dark, but I still like it. I’m really starting to like the format so I might do another one tomorrow.

Loving the Brits

History Boys DVD

I finally saw “The History Boys” last night. I can’t help but love and admire the hefty Richard Griffiths and the formidable Frances De La Tour. It was so good to see them in action outside of the Potter franchise. :) Except for his roving hands, Griffiths’s Hector embodies the kind of teacher I’ve always wanted to have and admired. He’s so flawed and slightly pathetic, yet endearing and admirable. I adore De La Tour’s understated yet fiery Mrs. Lintott (“What is history? History is women following behind (men) with the bucket.“) The whole cast is brilliant, actually. The main attraction of the movie, at least for me, is the acting. There’s nothing contrived about their performances; their chemistry felt natural and real. I guess it helped that they were all in the Tony award-winning play together. The movie plays the soundtrack of my life. I love it! And… ahh… the witty dialogue. It’s wordy and clever and wise–just my kind of thing. (Weird note: It made me want to have kids just so I could send them to British schools and get their damn A-Levels! Pathetic).

The best moments in reading are when you come across something–a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things—which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is along dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.” (Hector to Posner)

And speaking of reading, here’s another thing I’m loving right now: the Vintage Twins Series. I’m addicted to it, really. It’s brilliant, how can you not fall for it. The concept got me curious (“The greatest books of ALL time twinned with the greatest books of OUR time”), the covers made me drool, and the roster of authors sealed the deal. I have most of the books in the collection already, but I don’t mind getting this edition. That’s clever marketing doing it’s magic on a sucker like me! HAH! I started with Vintage Lust (of course!) and then I moved on to Vintage Youth. I’m gearing up for Vintage Sin and Vintage Lies next. I swear I love books!

Spaced out

Wednesday, 19 September 07

I’ve been away from this place for a looong time. Things kinda got crazy in the real world and I lost track of stuff. I’ve also been sick… I blame all the pills I’ve been popping. They are supposed to make life easier for me, but they seem to be doing the opposite. I’m constantly groggy so I feel dumb and lost most of the time. I get brief moments of lucidity at 3AM. Nice. I stopped self-medicating and finally went to see a professional early this week. I’m feeling a bit better, but my face is still throbbing from sinus pressure and my back is painful from my constant hacking and coughing. Dang, I should have gotten that effing flu shot last month! Oh well…

I need to take my leave again. The Benadryl I took is starting to kick in. See you on the other side.
