Rushing to the other side

Sunday, 31 December 06

I can’t wait for this year to end. Thank God there are only a few hours left before 2007 begins.

Grab your champagne glass (or wine or beer or whatever poison you fancy) and let’s toast the new year: “To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due.”*

Okay… might not be appropriate, but I’ve always wanted to use it somewhere! HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Here’s to a rock and rollin’ 2007!

I hate Christmas

Friday, 22 December 06

Yeah, that’s right. I am totally Grinching, but who cares.

I really hate Christmas. Why can’t I have a tantrum during this time of year? Why am I not allowed to lose my patience and why do I have to flash a close-up smile all day long to everyone I see. I’m frustrated, I’m unhappy, I’m stressed, I’m harassed, and I’m freaking tired of everything. So what if it’s Christmas. I don’t feel like celebrating.

Oh, please, don’t give me that look. Don’t even attempt to give me a lecture. I haven’t turned into Ebenezer Scrooge. I have friends, I wish people well, I have a life, and I go out and have fun. I just don’t don’t feel like roaring out in laughter, Ho-Ho-Ho-ing down the street, and infecting everyone with Yuletide cheer. Yeah, bad timing. Exactly. So you want me to just bear it and grin like an idiot because it’s Christmas? No way, José. I’m angry, I’m sad, I’m impatient, and I’m annoyed. I’m not going to wait till January comes around before I express myself. My head will explode by then or—even nastier—I’ll pounce on an unsuspecting loved one during our Nth Christmas dinner because he didn’t hear me say, “Pass the catsup, please.” I prefer to bitch now, thank you very much.

Okay, maybe it’s really not Christmas I hate—it’s the fakeness that fills the air, the people who are, all of a sudden, religious, pious, generous, and smiley-smiley. See them in a couple of weeks and they’ll be back in their year-round grumpy, irreverent, and miserly groove. Puh-leez… and they tell me I’m Scrooge.

It’s the time to spread love and happiness and joy. I agree, but why can’t we just do that every single day of the year? Maybe we’d be more civilized and the world would be a better place to live in and we wouldn’t be so cranky and stressed and we wouldn’t need Christmas to be dutiful, respectful, charitable, and joyful. And, and, and…

Oh, yeah, that’s right. Why listen to petulant, immature, and politically incorrect me? Go ahead, go back to your last minute shopping and partying. I’ll just be here in my dark, little corner Grinching my time away.

I feel Gorgeous!!!… I think.

Wednesday, 20 December 06

I stumbled across My Heritage while reading Neil Gaiman’s Blog. I swear, the things you pick up at that place! hehehehehe. It was there, actually, because someone told him about it.

Ok, the website has a face recognition program which allows you to find the Superstar in you. HAH! All you need to do is upload a photo of yourself and it will tell you which celebrity looks just like you! Of course I HAD to try it. I had so much fun, I did it three times!!! My ego totally needed this! :)

Version # 1:

Ehem… I look 74% like Beyonce!! Ka-ching, Ka-ching! I feel as if I’ve won something. Aycannotbelieveeeet!! I never knew I could be such a hot momma. Yeah, yeah. :) And then I’m 72% Jessica Alba! How I wish… :) Can I have their bodies, too? Please. I’ll be good, I promise. :)

Who is Tay Ping Hui and why do they have him in their data base?

Go to the site for a clearer picture.
Version # 2:

I have no idea who the guys are (who’s the old man?!?!? Oh God, it’s that mega vein I have on my forehead that made the machine think I’m centuries old. UGH. And the fat, redhead dude?), but, Omigod, Sarah Jessica Parker and Annie Lennox! My face is round, how could that be?!? I’m not complaining, though. :) Renee… Alright, she could be pretty. I just don’t like it when she’s too thin or too botoxed! Go to this site for a better view.

Version 3:

Wow… I look 80% like Laura Branigan. Whatever happened to her? And, whooohooo, 61% Shalom Harlow. Am I a super model or what! HAH! And the gorgeous Rosario Dawson. I am so glad to be 60% like her!!! Oh yeah. And, my idol, Parker Posey!!! Fabulous, fabulous Parker. :) Can I have 64% of Toni Morrison’s talent, too? :) Here’s the link to my 3rd version of me.

Okay, I feel so much better. All together now… “I feel pretty, oh so pretty, and I feel pretty and witty and bright! And I pity, Any girl who isn’t me tonight!”

Cool Designs

Tuesday, 19 December 06

I absolutely love Design Spotter! It’s a German webzine that offers virtual space for modern and contemporary designers to showcase their wares for free. Very cool. Anybody can upload their products to the site (you just need to follow simple instructions on how to do it), so you get an ecclectic mix of items from all over the world—from the really innovative to witty to down-right silly and bizarre. Here are some of my favorites:

1) Moka Pot

Moka Pot

A traditional feel yet totally modern stovetop espresso brewer.

2) Toaster

Reggeli Toaster

This is a concept toaster design—with a triple-purpose lid that acts as a butter board, cutting board, and a toast rack—from UK designer Nolan Chandler.

3) Bookmark

Bookmark

A flexible organic LED bookmark that lets you read in the dark. How cool is that! The designer, Avnish Priya Gautam, is from India.

4) Espresso Machine

Espresso Machine

I want this for Christmas or New Year or for my birthday! It looks scary and cool at the same time. It’s made by designer Pierre Ittner from Germany.

5) Silly Pillow

Pillow

Talk about silliness. This was made especially for the World Cup. It’s called “It’s different for girls”—a pillow designed for women football fans.

Design: TISCH 5, Silja Kaeser and Jessica Müller-Wallraf

6) Bizarre cuckoo clock

Cuckoo Clock

A digital clock with metal housing, chromed nails & chain… and a stuffed bird.

Designer: Michael Sans

7) Existentialist Vase

Vase

The Vase symbolizes the experience of transformation in life. It is produced by Rosenthal and is available online at http://www.momastore.org.

Half-past four

Monday, 18 December 06

I am having one of those days again. Could be the heat or it could be that I haven’t been getting enough sleep lately. Whatever it is, my hands have been refusing to cooperate with me. No painting or bead stringing today.

I struggled the whole morning and all throughout the afternoon, my frustration eating away at my patience. I looked up at the clock on the wall and it was half-past four. I gave in and gave up on being good. I revved up my laptop and launched Photoshop.

This is what I came up with:

Half-past four

Now I am ready to go to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Night

Night

The night used to belong to me. Now I find no solace in her.

Whiny the Pooh

Meet Whiny the Pooh, my Illustration Friday entry for this week. I was going to use this as a logo for one of my projects. A friend cautiously told me that it may be a bit too much. Oh well.

I think you can look at this in 2 ways: the bear needs help or someone is using him to help somebody. What do you think? :)

PS. No bear, real or stuffed, was harmed when I made this illo. Contrary to what most people think, I am really not that cruel! Hmmm… just a tiny, weee bit, maybe. :)

Ugh

Saturday, 16 December 06

I’ve lost the ability to form sentences…

Champions League Football: ROUND OF 16

FC Barcelona – Liverpool

Real Madrid – Bayern Munich

Valencia FC – InterMilan

Oporto – Chelsea

Celtic – AC Milan

PSV Eindhoven – Arsenal

Lille – Manchester United

AS Roma – Olympique Lyon

Hmmm… against my second favorite English team. And I really like Steven Gerrard (Did you see the FA cup finals last year? Fabulous). Not to mention the Ex-Barcelona players Reina, Luis Garcia, Zenden… and the other Spanish players and coach Rafa Benitez (who hates Mourinho, BTW. Yey). And the awkward but surprising Peter Crouch.

The first leg will be played on the 20th & 21st of February and the return leg on the 6th and 7th of March. Guess who will be glued to the telly and trolling trawling the internet for news.

Please let Barcelona win.

Cherubim

I have vivid nightmares. This is one of them.

EEEEEeeeep!

Monday, 11 December 06

I almost forgot! It’s Arsenal vs. Chelsea today. It’s half-time and it’s still 0-0. Ack. Hmmm… Ashley Cole has been booked. I want to wait for the final score, but I’ve got a loooong day tomorrow. Plus, like other neurotic & superstitious fans out there, I feel that everytime I watch a game I jinx the team I’m rooting for. :)

I hope the good guys keep winning this weekend (Barcelona won & Real Madrid lost yesterday. HAH!)! :)

Bona nit, world! I’ll see you tomorrow.

PS. I still can’t get used to seeing Ashley in a blue shirt!

A Cole
